Kenya is gearing up for full implementation of the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD+) by laying appropriate enabling infrastructure.
Speaking at the opening session of REDD+ registry design meeting in Nairobi today, Ag. Forest Conservation Secretary George Tarus thanked the stakeholders for supporting the process.
He said the registry will be a digital platform that tracks the ownership, issuance, retirement and transfer of carbon credits for REDD+ activities.
S&P Global Commodity Insights has been selected by Conservation International on behalf of the Kenya Government to develop the REDD+ Registry, which is expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2025.
Today’s inaugural workshop brought together a diverse range of stakeholders including government and civil society representatives to contribute to the process.
S&P Global Commodity Insights and Conservation International Kenya were represented at the meeting by Mr. Fabrice Tayot and Dr. Seif Hamisi respectively.
