Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has today called for a whole-of-society approach that brings together Government, private sector and civil society in the 15 billion National Tree Growing Programme.

The tree growing initiative is the anchor intervention of the 10-year National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy that seeks to raise Kenya’s tree cover from the current estimated 13% to 30% by the year 2032.

Hon Duale said tree growing should go beyond the environmental imperatives to becoming a moral obligation for the sake of current and future generations.

The Cabinet Secretary spoke today at City Park in Nairobi County during the growing of 3,000 bamboo trees to mark India’s 78th Independence Day.

At the event organized by Earth Keepers Foundation and attended by several dignitaries led by India’s High Commissioner to Kenya H.E Namgya Khampa and UN Resident Representative in Kenya Dr Stephen Jackson, said today’s commemoration was a powerful reminder of the growing importance of collaborations in addressing the worsening global climate crisis.

“This event exemplifies how international collaborations can lead to tangible results on the ground,” Hon. Duale, who was accompanied by Forestry Principal Secretary Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, said.

He urged for expanded partnerships between Kenya and India in environmental conservation and climate action, adding that active community participation coupled with individual efforts would help accelerate the country’s ecosystems restoration agenda.

“Together, we can achieve remarkable results,” CS Duale said at the event also attended by Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. Alex Lemarkoko and NEMA Director General Mr. Mamo Mamo.
